Alaska: A History of the 49th State by Claus-M. Naske and Herman E. Slotnick

1979 Eerdmans Publishing Company soft cover book with 341 pages. In addition to providing a full chronological survey of Alaska's history (prior to its 1979 publication), the authors devote special discussion chapters to Alaska's painfully drawn-out quest for statehood, the precedent setting Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971 and the effect of the oil industry on the economy. Some consider this book heavily weighted to political and economic issues rather than the natural history of the state. Profusely illustrated.
